Tip #1 - ALWAYS, Always, always remember to write down the place, source, book name, author, publisher, page number and all other pertinent information about where you found your genealogy data. If you don’t you will be destined to looking up the same information and going back to the same place over and over again.
Before visiting the town hall, library, research center or any other resource location, pack a bag with the following. I keep this bag in the closet near the door, ready to go.
-
1.Notebook and pencils to make notes about the visit with the date, time, location, good points and bad points about the trip.
-
2.Take your digital camera. Many of these locations will allow you to take pictures of documents instead of spending hefty copier charges.
-
3.Carry blank forms for your research that may be found free at Family Tree Magazine.
-
4.A reserve pair of reading glasses.
-
5.Change for parking meters, and the copier if my camera is not allowed or has a malfunction.
