We are a Northeast Native American family who have been on the powwow trail all of our lives.
The webmistress and historian-in-training, Deborah Champlain, and head researcher and genealogist-in-training, Gail Champlain Belt are the daughters of the late Harold Champlain who was an active member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe in the mid to late 20th century, and founder of the New England Native American Calendar.
Deborah and Gail are your hostesses here at the Northeast Wigwam.
Harold spent many years promoting the concept of unity and knowledge sharing among Northeastern tribes through his ideas, love for Native America, sincerety, determination and actions.
In keeping Harold’s legacy alive, we created this website to share the cultural, historical, artistic and spiritual lessons he handed down to us.
In 2007 we realized that although we had lost key and valuable members of our family, we still possessed the resources and desire to continue Harold’s mission. We decided to branch out and become a non-profit organization, to involve and embrace others who share our values and who are committed to keeping the spirit of Northeast Native America alive.
Deborah Champlain is a long time computer developer and consultant in the New York City area.
Gail Champlain Belt is the proud mom of six who has been solving genealogy mysteries in the New England area for more than 15 years.
